| March 28: Womp Rats vs. Tsunami (game #2) Bryan Orfila scored a hat trick and Greg Saliba scored the overtime game winner as the Womp
Rats survived Tsunami, 4-3.
As Pete Cruz drove
to the front of the net in the final minute of overtime, Saliba fired a slap shot from the
high slot that beat the Tsunami goalie cleanly, giving the Womp Rats their second win in
two games this season.
Despite his overtime heroics, Saliba gave credit to Orfila and
goalie Chris Campbell.
"Bryan just had a great game -- we needed someone to take control, and he did that
for us," said Saliba. "We didn't defend well, especially in the first
period, but Chris made some great saves and kept us in the game."
Trailing 0-1 in the first period, Orfila drove the puck to the
center and scored unassisted on a wrist shot as the Womp Rats changed their line behind
the play. Then, early in the second period, Orfila took a James Ozenne pass in front of the net and stuffed it
home to put the Rats ahead.
After Andrew Lyum tied the game with his second
goal, a hustling Kai Lin drew a roughing
penalty on Tsunami's Keith Lai. Orfila completed the hat trick when
Saliba, quarterbacking the power play from the point, skated the puck in deep for a shot,
and Orfila backhanded the rebound between his own
legs for a spectacular goal.
Despite strong puck movement by Orfila and linemate Frank Tryon, the Womp Rats appeared disorganized
early in the game and played much of the first period in their own zone. Fortunately
for the Rats, goalie Chris Campbell was on top of his game, stopping all but three shots.
"Chris was the bomb today. He came up big when we
needed him," said defenseman Pete Cruz.
The Womp Rats will try to improve to 3-0 on Sunday, April 11, in
a 3:00pm game against Arsenal. |
